ode to my fren

I have a friend whom I know quite well back in the Commando days. Our friendship started from the first day when we were both recruits. He was from VJC and I was from NJC but all these don't matter when we are "botak" and doing our 100th pushup for the first morning in the army. All these don't matter when we are shouting army songs when we march to have our meals. All these don't matter when the sergeant is screaming at us while we are cold, tired, wet and hungry. We are friends, we are comrades, we trained and played hard together.

One incident that is etched in my mind is when both of us attended the Basic Airborne Course, which means parachuting course. We were one of the few people selected to attend the course first. We were required to wear a helmet all the time with our initials sketched at the front of the helmet. Mine read "J.R Wong". His read "Prem". When we sit on the benches waiting for instructions, we have to sit with our knee and ankle touching the other knee and ankle respectively. This position is called "feet knee lock tight". You guys can try it and it's not easy to sit like that for a period of time because it's unnatural. It's training and we have to LAND after parachuting with that feet position. Anyway, back to the story. One day, someone of a higher rank was shouting at us (as usual), then he wanted to shout at him. He saw his name and said "You. Sperm Head". Me and my friends tried to stifle our laughter and we made a HUGE joke out of it at the end of the day.

We were together too when we were training together to play hockey for the commando formation. Realistically speaking, he's not a fantastic player but he got bulk. He's muscular and the sight of him charging at you can be quite tramatising. We wanted to be in the team badly because playing hockey then was the TICKET out from commando training. It was also the ticket to escape from 3 weeks of Brunei hell. In the end, we both made the team (cause there weren't much players) but after 1 match, I was withdrawn cause I fractured my right ankle due to a parachuting accident. Since then, I have lost touch with him and when I see him, it's just a Hi and Bye. We attended our first commando reservist together last June and he was the same old jovial self since the hockey days.

He was a good friend. He was intelligent, friendly and humorous. He is a patient man too and withstood lots of extra "tekans" from our superiors. He.... passed away last night due to an asthma attack. I knew he had asthma but he told me once that it's harmless but this attack turned out to be a harmful one. Life is unpredictable. Some things are unexpected. Went to his wake just now. He looked so peaceful, as if he's sleeping....

Sleep well, my dear friend. I will always remember you.

Against all odds. For honor and glory.

Lesson learnt...

Guess almost everyone know about the plight of my laptop. Just got it back today and I am happily typing this blog using my LAPTOP. hahahaha.... Oh, the troubles not over, need to go back next time (soon ba) to replace some other parts cause if not replaced, the warranty will be void the next time I go back for other repairs. Sigh.... Waited 7 days liao so don't wanna wait anymore so ask them to do what they can and return me back my laptop first....

And the important lesson learnt is..... ALWAYS have a pretty girl as your front-line service personnel next time if you happen to own a company. This is esp so if the service is about repairing work. This is because the MALE customers' anger and impatience will be dissolved immediately. Wahahahaha.... Okok...

Went Huang Jie's hall today to try to continue the URECA research shit. But... there's a PS2 in his room!!! And no prize for the right guess, we played soccer with the PS2 until I left the school in the evening. No work done at all. (For the record, we used England and won the International Cup)

Haha... Floorballl tomorrow.. Wonder what the turn out will be like for the first training session after the exams... Soooooooooooooooooooooooo busy!!!

A fleeting thought

can u tell me why
这样的我-你也曾爱过
不是么……

Sad song right?? Sigh... When I was listening to this song, it reminded me of a fren who had a sad story. Guess the lyrics summarized her story. Was saddened by the lyrics of the song when she intro-ed the song to me and I totally felt for her. I knew that she has a softer inner self that she hides with her tough outlook but I never knew she had such sorrow too. Nothing much she can do about it, but to let time heal her wound. Guess the wound can be healed but the scar will never go away. Best of luck to her....

Exam's over!!

All units... The war against the evil papers is over. Please go back home to your loved ones to let them know you survived the war. Sleep more to replenish the hours awake in the trenches while "cheem" words were bombarding all around you. The country is proud of you. Results of the war will be made known in around a month's time. Let us all pray for a resounding victory!!

Haha... To those NUS and SMU ppl, good luck in your war. :) May the strongest prevail!!

Hmmm... Just bought a 160gb hard disk. Planning to borrow animes from my frens and then store them inside the hard drive for future viewing. Went to Sim Lim after the exam (alone) to buy the hard disk. Think it was my second visit there. My first visit was in the 1st year of army when i went there to buy a MD player (sounds outdated liao...) Wow... It's so amazing to find so many retailers selling things related to computers there. Felt that I kena "chopped" from buying the hard disk but well.....

Oh, sent my laptop for repair recently too. :( Have to change the motherboard, keyboard, heat sink and the modem port. Sigh... There goes more of my $$$. :(

Looking forward to exercise more after the exams man. Getting flabby. Think exercise also not much use, only slow down the process of becomeing flabby but I still got my IPPT to think about!! Oh no..... Yeah, hope to play lotsa floorball and soccer and badminton etc. Anyone playing sports remember to jio me!?!??!! (except water sports)

Just ordered Football Manager 2005 game. (pirated of course) Can't wait to play it. But in the meantime, back to my notes/book/blue bible.. Zzzz...

Visit to TTSH

Just fetched my grandma to TTSH for a check up. Realised that I have not met her new maid. I went to my grandma's place in Bishan to accompany her to TTSH and this new maid opened the door. I dun know bahasa indonesia and she dun know much english, so after a moment of stun silence (she look at me, i look at her), she said "GO AWAY" haha... I tried to suppress my smile as I shouted "Po Po!!!" and she smiled after realising her mistake. Nvm... Forgiven.. Haha...

Upon reaching TTSH, my grandma don't want a wheelchair, so she walked agonising slowly with the support of my maid.. Not as if I minded the speed. Anyway, realised that the appointment is 18th Nov instead of 8th Nov. But the doctor rushed back to TTSH to attend to my grandma only. Haha.... Bought 2 months of supply of medicine. 1 big bag of medicine costing around $200. Wonder how can one person consume such a big bag of medicine. *shake head*

After that, my grandma treated me to chicken rice at a coffee shop near her house and forced me to to buy some pastries home. Haha... And she wanted me to take taxi home but i tell the uncle to drop me at Bishan Mrt.. Pocketed the $10.... Hmmm... Thought that the money can be put to better use than taking a taxi.

Hmmm.. Hospital can be quite scary. The seemingly never-ending corridors, the forbidding reception area, the fat matrons, the eternal waiting time to see a doctor, the smell of the disinfectant... Isn't it an irony that most of us are born in a hospital and most of us will end our life in a hospital? Hmmm... Throughout the whole journey also never talk much to my grandma. She know Hokkien and little chinese, I know chinese and a little Hokkien. Total communication breakdown.... Sigh....

One last paper to go... The last battle for this year....

And so the war begins....

The war begins tomorrow... All NTU yr 2 group B ppl, pls report to your respective units tomorrow by 0900hrs. This is going to be the third war of your NTU life and it ain't be the last. The rules of engagement remains the same: shoot at first sight and leave no man behind... Weather is expected to be cold so bring a windbreaker/jacket along. Take care and god bless. May the evil papers be crushed and banished to haunt us 6 months later.....

Tagline of the day (from Troy): "Do you know what's there, waiting, beyond that beach? Immortality! Take it, it's yours!"

Hahaha... Good luck everyone. :)
