At last...

Haiz... I thought there's something wrong with my music file. Dunch know why the music not playing at all these few days. To my utter horror, the reason for this "technical error" is due to........... I forgot (i-thot-i-did) to upload the song up. (Human error is one of the biggest cause for operational risk. Heh... Repeating what I just studied) Geez... On the bright side, I'm glad technology is working. Haha.. Enjoy this song. Wish I have a voice like him but well...

Going to EY with marky and selena tomorrow. We going there jalan jalan before going back to school to study. First paper this Fri!!! Heard my sis's (NUS student) first paper start after my last paper!! Woooooo... Study hard everyone!

Quite a number of couples quarreling nowadays. Break-ups and the atmosphere of been rejected is all over the place. Sigh... Troubles troubles troubles... Kind of nothing to blog at the moment. Feeling down.. Also dun know why. Hope it will fade/pass by quickly. Life sucks.

what you hear, you forget; what you see, you remember; what you do, you understand

The title of this blog is dedicated to a quote made by Prof Foo See Liang during his keynote closing speech at the end of the KPMG iCEE Awards Presentation 2005. He apparantly remembered the quote by Confucius off the cuff and made a very big impression among all of us. We do not know he has so much "ink" in him! Hahahaha.... The pictures are taken by Iris. As the lighting condition is quite dim (coupled with the fact that the digicam is not top notch SLR), some of the pics turned out to be quite bad.

Yay!! My team and I won second place in the competition! Though I MUST admit that it was sheer luck that we made it so high up in the peaking order. Our presentation skills ain't fantastic. Luckily my biz comm tutor wasn't there or she will relook into the scores she gave me. But anyway, well done team!! (I wonder how many of you read my blog but who carez) Remember the first email I sent you guys? I outlined my hope that we can be one of the finalists for the competition though I know it was quite difficult cause only 4 teams are chosen for the competition. In the end, we made it. =)

Of course, it was not all a bed of rose preparing for the competition. We literally worked our heart out to prepare for the presentation. Hours of rehearsals, editing, complaining were put into the slides. We burned our weekend together in school just to get things right. On hindsight, it was a great experience being in the finals. The pressure was tremednous and the competition was intimidating (esp with professional judges around). I learnt quite a lot and I think my smoking skill went up a little bit. Heh... I don't think my team and I will be as motivated or as well prepared if we are not in the finals. Oh yah, the prize was a $50 kino voucher. =) Got new books to read liao. Heh... For those who are interested, the first prize was a $80 voucher.

I just attended the ICPAS (Institute of Certified Public Accountants Singapore) D&D last friday. I was there to receive their scholarship. Before I say anything more, I must thank Marky for reminding me to hand in my application form. I had remembered wrongly the submission date and Marky reminded me. Both of us rushed to complete the form and took our pic using the instant pic machine outside the office (the machine is very lousy. please use it as a last resort). Quite a no. of ppl applied cause there's no interview involved. The school administrators shortlisted a few candidates for ICPAS consideration. I was pleasantly surprised to get a letter from them that I had gotten it. I was even more honored when I was the only final year accountancy student from NTU to receive it. The other NTU recipent was a yr 2 accountancy hunk. Another 4 awards went to SMU students.

The theme was Old Shanghai and there are a lot of ppl dressed to the theme that day. I saw lots of shanghai tai tais and chow yun fats that day man. Haha... I think there were a lot of big shots that day but due to my inadequate knowledge, I failed to recognise more of them. However, I did recognise Prof Gillain (Dean Accountancy), Prof Choo Teck Min (Vice Dean Accountancy), Second minister for finance (and his bodyguards) and the managing partner of KPMG (I recognised him cause I attended KPMG tea session last year). Hence, it's no wonder my legs are all jelly when I go up the stage to receive the cheque and certificate. Heh.. At least my worry for the source of money for convo trip is settled. =P

11 days to exams and I have not started!!! Ahhhh!!!

engineering students and NBS

I know I update my blog irregularly. But... but.. I really have no time.. Sigh... Not like Navi who can blog up to 4 times a day.. I.. I can't do it.. Boo hoo hoo... And my faithful reader, KJ, says mine is boring.. sigh... I know I am a boring guy. A lot of ppl can attest to it.. =(

Sianz 1/2. Lotsa to do and ppl STARTED revising for exam liao. I wonder how they get hold of all these time. I have been skipping floorball training and I can't even catch up! Today mark saw an interesting thing happening in NBS. He wanted a room to stay in so he went to look for a suitable tutorial room. As he is quite sian (cause every room got ppl), he just pull the door open and pop his head inside the rooms. Lo and behold, he found "something" inside one of the tut room. There was this girl who was sitting on this guy's lap and they were kissing. Wooooo!!!! Happening sia~ On a sat afternoon some more. Think no one izzzzzit??? The worse thing is - they are engineering student!!! What the hell are you doing in NBS territory?

On an unrelated note, I hate non-NBS students occupying NBS properties. While I agree we are one big university and we shld share facilities (blah blah.. all the holistic things) but it really irk me when I have NO place to sit and study and all you can see is engineering students occupying the whole of the reading room with their materials spewed all over the table. WTH! I hereby declare that I will NOT care whether there is any one studying in the tut room already or not. I want to study there means I want to study there. You want privacy? Go elsewhere then and give me the whole room. Hey! That sounds like a swell idea. Who wants to join me? The larger our grp, the faster the ppl in the room will get out. Who say first come means the room is yours? Sorlee huh. Things dun work that way. Shall blog about my experience when I tried my plan ok?

Man U won 3-1!! Saw a huge crowd around the kopitiam just now. Man U's goals are a bit tai-ko though.

Networking night and the ghost in nanyang audit

Phew... So much things to say but don't know where to start. It was the Accounting Big 4 networking night today and NBS was transformed (or at least Nanyang Audit) into a mini shenton way. I must say that the girls all looked alike - a black jacket and a blouse. I thought collectively, they look like bank tellers. Some of them even brought cameras along to take pics. Plueeeeeesh lah... Like that also want to take pics.

Yu Jun was the emcee for the night and he made some dumb jokes on stage in front of everyone. But those jokes are typically his style, together with his signature laughter (or rather deep chuckle). But kudos to him for having the balls to stand on the stage addressing everyone. I wouldn't have such guts nor memory to do the job man. After some more small talk from Yu Jun, Mark, HJ and I decide to put our bags inside a fire extinguisher point in the auditorium cause it will faciliate movement during the networking event. I will come back to the importance of this point later.

Out of the audit door (we went to put bags so we were one of the last). *Poof* Mini-Shenton way had migrated to the nanyan audit floor and the sight was spectacular. It was just like Raffles Place, with ppl everywhere giving out freebies (okaaaaayy.. the ppl in raffles place dun really give out freebies but they promised freebies if you sign something...) to people with empty arms (like HJ, Mark and I). The networking began in earnest with all the partners, senior managers, managers and associate sharing their personal experiences and giving an insight to what we can expect working in their respective companies.

Among all these noisy chatters, deep murmurings, excited high pitches and laughters and guffaws, I suddenly felt fear. Fear because I might not assimilate into working life in less than a years' time. Fear because I am no longer cocooned in a school. Fear because I might not fulfill my potential. Fear because I see others fighting so hard to be recognised. Fear that I might be left behind in life.

I felt awed. When is it you can talk to a managing partner of a Big 4? Total respect for these guys who made it so far.

I felt humbled. There are so much more things for me to learn and do. The experiences which they described are something which I can never totally understand until I experience them on my own.

I must say that overall, the event had been an interesting one but it dug out all the fears that I had kept to myself all these time.

After the whole event, HJ, Mark and I went back to the auditorium to retrieve our bags. As Hj opened the door, I was the first to step through and I got a fright. It was NBS FOC fright night all over again. There was this girl standing in the dark room (there's another double door leading to the audit) with her face fully illuminated (apparently from her mobile phone - we realised after our shock was over). It was just like FOC Fright Night!!!!! I thot I was seeing things cause there were no reactions from HJ and Mark but as we were retrieving our bags, we were laughing out loud and Mark even say quickly get our bags and get out. Hahahahah..... Damn. I still remembered I punched a "ghost" during the FOC Fright Night. Luckily she wasn't anywhere near me then. Haha....

oooo.... too bad for liverpool

Took a rest last night and watched the final 10 mins of first half between Chelsea and Liverpool. Witnessed the brillance of drogba and the "taiko-ness" (ie. luck) of Diamien Duff for Chelsea's second goal. The score was 2-1 in favor of Chelsea then but I was shocked when I look at soccernet.com today and found the headline saying that Liverpool was whacked 4-1. What a huge difference between a champions league winner and an English Premier League winner. What a huge difference money can buy for you. The smugness on Mourinho (Chelsea's manager) is so obvious that it can be compared to saying that human need to breathe oxygen to live. How I hope ANY team can wipe that smugness off his face. A victor without humility is an arse-hole. (A bit of biasness here. I'm a man U fan and I swear Ferguson was humble in ALL his victories. Lalala...)

Going to be a busy busy October. 3 reports, 4 presentations, 1 event to organise and countless recruitment talks to attend. I know everyone is going through this patch now and I hope we can survive throught this month (and the next, since examinations is in Nov. Arrgghhh...).

Should a guy follow his heart or his mind when choosing a girlfriend? I had a friend who was in this situation a few months back. I have anither friend who is currently facing this situation. I know its a tough problem but no matter what you choose, you gotta live with it. Who says love blinds ppl? Sometimes logic blinds ppl as well.

Oh yah, remember about the "event to organise" thingy i mentioned? It's the NTU Street Challenge (Floorball) 2005. Unfortunately/Fortunately, my Club is the organizing staff for the tournament. Just got the fixtures and stuff and I hope everything will turn out fine. It's held this coming Tues to Thurs at SRC. Come look see when you are in the vincinity or you have the time yah?

Heh... Ivan ah.. You better turn up since you are now officially/unoffically part of the floorball main com. *snigger*
